Motorola Moto Z2 Play Brings More Mods and Updated Features to Malaysia
Hot off the Malaysian launch of the Motorola Moto G5 Plus, the now Lenovo owned company, has unveiled its follow up to its premium mid-range Moto Z Play. The Moto Z Play debuted last year bringing Motorola’s innovative Moto Mods to a more budget friendly device. The Moto Z Play debuted in Malaysia at the end of last year for RM1799.
This year, Motorola is looking to up the ante with a new, updated edition of the Motorola Moto Z Play dubbed Moto Z2 Play. The Moto Z2 Play continues it’s predecessor’s proposition of being in the premium mid-range category. While it may not carry the latest specification, the device still packs a punch in the specifications department.
This year’s Moto Z2 Play runs on an octa-core (8-core) Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor clocked at 2.2GHz. It runs on an Adreno 506 graphics processor and has 4GB of RAM. The Z2 Play will be coming with 64GB of internal storage which is expandable with a microSD card with an additional 256GB of memory. On the display front, the Moto Z2 Play comes with a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD 1080p resolution. The display also has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.
In addition to this, the Moto Z2 Play will be coming with an updated 12-megapixel main camera sensor with a f/1.7 aperture. The main camera will also feature phase detection auto-focus (PDAF) and laser auto-focus as well as a dual tone flash. The camera also has face detection, geo-tagging, touch focus, panorama and auto-HDR features. It will also be able to capture 4K (UHD) videos at 30fps, 1080p Full HD video at 60fps and 720p HD video at 120fps. The front facing, camera is a 5-megapixel sensor with a f/2.2 aperture and also features a dual tone LED flash and 1080p recording. Both cameras feature a 1.4µm pixel size.
The Moto Z2 Play comes with dual SIM standby capabilities. It will be able to take advantage of WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.2. It will be taking advantage of the newer USB Type C connector running on USB 3.1 and will have near field communications (NFC). All of these features will be powered by a non-removable 3000mAh battery.
New MotoMods with Updated Features
The Moto Z2 Play comes with nearly the same design as its predecessor for a reason: it needs to be compatible with MotoMods. MotoMods is Motorola’s approach to modularity which made quite a bit of noise at its announcement last year. This year, Motorola reaffirms its commitment to the MotoMods platform with a few new MotoMods which will expand further the impressive capabilities of the Moto Z series.
Together with the refresh of the Moto Z Play, Motorola is bringing to market two more Motomods. The GamePad MotoMod turns you Moto Z2 Play into a capable mobile gaming platform with dual control sticks, a D Pad and four buttons. In addition to the new game pad, the SoundBoost2 Motomod which is developed in partnership with JBL will also expand the MotoMod family. In addition, Motorola is also expanding the available designs for the the style shells MotoMods. In addition, they are introducing a new TurboBoost MotoMod and Wireless Charging Style Shell
The Moto Z Play will be available starting 7th July 2017 for RM1.999 from all Motorola and Lenovo Mobile stores and business partners. The new MotoMods will be available in the next few month. Details on pricing will be announced closer to the release date.
