HP is a name familiar with anyone these days. Hewlett-Packard is one of the longest standing PC brands in the world. They are also one of earliest consumer PC manufacturers. I, for one, remembered that my first home PC experience was on a HP desktop that weighs as much as an oven full of pastries; pretty heavy for such a little thing.
The Palo Alto outfit has evolved and transformed itself a few times in the past decade though to be reinvented to the HP that we know now. At some point too the PC giant even wanted to leave the consumer market for good and focus their efforts on corporate solutions instead. In some way, that corporate focus really did come true. Plenty of their devices are aimed toward the working professional with clean and sharp lines across their range of products. They do have products that cater to the general usage market too though. They even furnish gamers with their HP Gaming and Omen by HP lines. In a sense they never left the consumer market.
With the HP Home Planet Conference happening yesterday and today HP refreshed their professional line of products and introduced one very intriguing Spectre convertible laptop. The Spectre Folio as they call it is one of their latest and weirdly innovative product. It features leather casing that is embedded to the aluminium frames that makes up the integral part of the convertible’s structure. Yes, we are calling it innovative because of the fully genuine leather case because we have never seen a PC designed and built like that before. That also required them to manufacture the smallest motherboard in the world, specially for the Spectre Folio. The 4K display PC can also last about 18 hours which also means you can work off it for a week. Oh, not to forget it comes with 4G LTE connectivity.
Who does not like the feel of leather on their skins? The premium feel is enough of a reason for you to consider buying one. If you do want to buy one though the HP Spectre Folio will be powered by an 8th Generation Intel Core processor with Intel integrated GPU too. The super thin PC also comes with ample RAM and SSD Storage to ensure that you still can get on top of all your emails and research without kicking up a fuss. The only issue then is that they say that it may not come to Malaysia at all; shame.
Then there is the ever so popular and pretty HP Spectre 13 x360 and HP Spectre 15 x360. The Spectre x360 lines of the convertible in the HP stables has been known to be the most premium line of convertibles in their range. The brand new redesigned Spectre x360 line comes in two sizes now, a 13-incher or a 15-incher; both differing in display size. Each are packed with the latest and greatest from Intel with small bumps in RAM and storage size. The 15-inch version though can be kitted with a GTX1050Ti GPU for maximum productivity on-the-go. Heck, you can even game on it. If battery life is what you need though the 13-inch HP Spectre 13 x360 will kick around for about 22.5 hours (quoted up to). The 15-inch will still last you about 10 hours though so it is not like they are short-changing you. Of course their stylus will still be included out-of-the-box.
Other products they showcased on the showfloor is their new Elitebook and Elitebook x360 convertible PC. The Elitebook x360 1040 GS they call it is designed to be the industrial workhorse for the industry. It comes with either a 13-inch display or 14-inch for greater flexibility in its use range.
Then there are the industrial powerhouses in the HP Zbook and Z Desktops built for maximum workplace productivity. The Z line of products are designed with the creative industry in mind while keeping it cost-effective for SMEs.
Of course you when you process documents or even creative designs you need to print. HP also displayed their brand new LaserJet MP series of printers for the SMEs with up to A3 size printing. Require something more specific? HP answers with their brand new Jet Fusion 3D printer.
As mentioned the HP Spectre Folio may not make it to the Malaysian market at all. Which also means we do not have an official pricing for the HP Spectre Folio just yet. The HP Spectre x360 series though starts at MYR5,249 and will be available next month onward. The Elitebook x360 starts at MYR5,500 and is already available in the market via HP’s authorised resellers nationwide. The Zbook 15 GS and Zbook 15V GS is also available now from MYR9,300 and MYR5,398 respectively. The workstation that is the HP Z4 G4 is now also available from MYR6,102 onward. The printers are available now too but if you are interested you would have to contact HP directly to get a specialised solution and quotation.
