Everyone’s excited for the new Galaxy S8 including one of Malaysia’s largest telcos, Celcom! Having one of the largest subscriber bases and arguably the best data packed mobile internet plans isn’t enough for Celcom. Instead, they’ve taken the opportunity given by one of Samsung’s most popular devices to-date: the S8. While Samsung has its own offers, the telco has opted to give its subscribers a steep discount on the device with a contract or allow them to own the latest and greatest without having to fork out the retail price of the device.
Together with their data packed plans, customers will now have the option to get a Samsung Galaxy S8 or S8+ at a discounted price. Of course, if you’re interested in purchasing the device at a one-time payment, the Samsung Galaxy S8 will run you at least RM2,168 while S8+ will run you at least RM2,498. However, these prices are subject to a 2-year contract with Celcom. If you want to get the devices without the 2-year tie down, it’ll run you RM3,112.26 for the S8 and RM3,489.62 for the S8+.
That said, the device will also be available as an EasyPhone on Celcom. What exactly is an EasyPhone? To be really brief, think of it as a loan from Celcom to purchase devices similar to an easy payment plan without the hassle of the credit or compounding interest. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are the first phones to be featured on the plan with more to come in the coming months. Before we dive into the plan, here are some of the caveats of the plan. The prices for instalments are meant for pre-existing customers; new customers will have to pay a deposit or wait for a minimum of 3-months to take advantage of the plan. During the payment period, you will be unable to downgrade your plan or swap to newer one of less value. Finally, the amount that you are paying for the device excludes your monthly commitment for your call and data plan.
Since that’s out of the way, what exactly are we looking at for the EasyPhone Program? First, the instalment is not differentiated according to the tier of your plan. Celcom First Gold Plus and Platinum customers will be able to get the Samsung Galaxy S8 at RM145 per month while the S8+ will cost RM165 per month. An additional RM30 will entitle customers to device protection coverage. The prices are subject to a 2-year commitment. This means that you’ll be paying the additional amount for 2-years on top of your plan price.
Here’s a rundown of the cost of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ on Celcom’s plans:
|First Gold Plus||First Platinum||Easy Phone||Easy Phone with device protection|
|Samsung Galaxy S8||RM2,478||RM2,168||RM145/month||RM175/month|
|Samsung Galaxy S8+||RM2,808||RM2,498||RM165/month||RM195/month|
