Apple and Samsung Agree Outside America
It looks like some form of a truce has been formed between Apple and Samsung. Both these tech giants have been at each other’s throats for years. Is it possible that an agreement has been reached? It sure looks like it. But there is a catch as usual. This deal only applies outside American borders!
Both companies in an official joint statement announced that they have decided to end litigation proceedings and bury the hatchet outside the United States. This is a major move by the two tech typhoons as there were litigation proceedings in a total of nine countries between the two. The list includes Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, South Korea, Australia and Japan.
Apple and Samsung have fought on everything – from phones to tablets. Bloomberg reported that “Apple and Samsung have agreed to drop all litigation between the two companies outside the United States,” the companies said in the statement. “This agreement does not involve any licensing arrangements, and the companies are continuing to pursue the existing cases in U.S. courts.”
Although this was a shocking agreement, the battle continues on American soil. It seems that licensing agreements between the companies are not even an option in the US. Apple has already won most of the legal proceedings by securing $1 billion in damages.
It is really nice to see the tech corporations that many love find some common ground. Hopefully this is a love story that will last and have a permanent happy ending. It will be extremely sad to see the recent attempts at peace go to waste in the future with some other patent stirring up tension between Apple and Samsung once again. We have our fingers and toes crossed.
