Apple Podcasts update brings Siri integration, CarPlay support
Apple is releasing a major update for its very own Podcasts app for iPhones and iPads.
The new update brings Podcasts to version 2.1. The update finally brings in Siri integration, enabling the use of voice commands to play their podcasts and stations. Users can say “play podcasts” to play the queue or the name of a specific podcast to select it alone. Another new feature is support for CarPlay. CarPlay is an iOS operating system developed for cars to be released later this year. With this update, it would be possible to listen to podcasts in your car through CarPlay.
As with all updates, there are several other improvements to Podcasts, primarily in navigation within the app. There is a new Unplayed tab that indicates downloaded podcast episodes that haven’t been viewed yet. A new Feed tab allows you to browse for new episodes and they can now be saved for offline viewing. If your playlist is getting too cluttered, there is an option to automatically delete watched episodes. Links to favorite podcasts can also be shared with your friends via AirDrop. The new update also resolves playback issues that appear after syncing with iTunes and improves stability when new podcasts are downloaded.
