Apple to Acquire Radio App Swell
Rumour has it that Apple is close to closing a deal that will make it the new owner of Pandora-for-talk-radio app Swell as reported by Recode. It will cost $30 million for Apple to put its stamp on the app.
This recent interest in acquiring Swell comes as an addition to the tech giant’s shopping spree that has been under-way in the past few months. The company has recently purchased Beats and book recommendation service BookLamp.
Swell is set to shut down this week despite raising $7.2 million from investors. The app compiles various pod-casts and shows to stitched them into personalized streams. The failure of the app looks to be a lack of users. According to the report, most of Swell’s employees will be jumping onto the Apple boat.
It looks to us like another talent acquisition by Apple. The company already has its own pod-cast app but this has not been a success with only a 1.5 star rating at the Apple App Store. The tech typhoon may be looking to combine its own app with Swell to make one good pod-cast app that hopefully finds some success.
Both Apple and Swell have declined to comment on the matter.
